Black Mountain Fitness is a gem.
When I moved to North Scottsdale, I was very much afraid I would be forced to join one of the megachains, but luck led me to Black Mountain. The atmosphere is local and friendly and takes the dread out of going to the gym.

I love this gym and as a serial gym joiner……I’ve tried them all and never stayed beyond a year! But I finally found my home and I’ve been with Janie at Black Mountain Fitness for well over 4 years. The gym is very well equipped with free weights and machines along with cardio equipment.
Black Mountain as a whole, meaning the people and the gym itself, have helped in keeping me motivated for my fitness goals and have only heightened my excitement for future accomplishments…which has kept me coming back! – Kacey Grove
Julia’s workouts/training sessions are fantastic. I have more energy, better balance, and improved strength. And as an added benefit, I’ve lost unwanted inches all over so my clothes fit comfortably and look good. Julia’s very patient with: ‘you want me to do what?’ and: ‘I don’t think so’ and yet with her I always can. I recommend her to anyone of any age! Thanks Julia!!
Julia’s fitness training has enabled me to loose 18lbs of fat and flab and replace it with lean, toned, muscles and lots of positive energy! She is attentive to my personal goals to increase mobility, flexibility, and balance and maintenance of weight. Unique work out routines that include weight lifting, boxing, pilates, TRX, and cardio are fresh and interesting. I appreciate her constant vigilance for correct form and execution of the exercises in order to maximize result and avoid injury. She pushes me to a greater effort in a positive way that comes from her own knowledgeable and joy-filled experience with fitness, anatomy, nutrition and good health!
Julia has been amazing trying to whip me into shape. I have never had a trainer that could really tell when my muscles were engaging or not until I met Julia. I now have her ‘in my ear’ anytime I am working out. My physical disabilities present challenges when training. Julia has been very creative with my training. She both challenges and pushes me to do better. Since working with Julia, I have lost 15lbs and my clothes are fitting better! Thank you Julia!
